|1.0 WHAT IS A PYRRHIC VICTORY?
Wikipedia defines Pyrrhic Victory as :
"A Pyrrhic victory Is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. Someone who wins a Pyrrhic victory has also taken a heavy toll that negates any true sense of achievement or damages long-term progress.'
2.0 THE VICTORY, OR WAS IT A VICTORY?
I see the impeachment of President Trump as a Pyrrhic Victory over the Democratic party.
Trump may be clumsy but he committed no crime in my opinion and certainly is not a traitor. In addition Trump was not allowed any due process of law in his impeachment by the House of Representatives. And to top in off, there is solid evidence that former Vice President Biden did coerce a foreign government and got paid of indirectly by payment through his son Hunter . The American public is so polarized that the left cannot see the grave damage that they have inflicted on the rule of law and the rights guaranteed by the US Constitution.
The tantrum that the Democratic party has put on for the last three years with Russia Gate and the Me Too Movement just makes the efforts of the Democratic party look desperate.
Further the Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, reported on irregularities by the FBI which further muddies the waters. There has been clear wrongdoing by the FBI but It doesn't appear to be particularly partisan. I think that the general public is just confused about whet to believe because the media is biased both to the left and right.
I think that history will judge the political behavior of both parties as being really awful. I expect that the Senate will not convict Trump and that his acquittal will actually make him more popular among many Americans. I would call this a Pyrrhic victory if this happens.
